Off-Road Biking For Young Riders There are limited places to go to ride your motorbike before you are old enough to go on the road legally. The North Lincolnshire Motorcycle Forum is keen to see more off-road sites so that young people can start to enjoy biking from an early age. Here are some of the places you can go to watch or take part in off-road biking. Organised Events Try your hand at speedway! Scunthorpe Speedway's mini-track has been operating for over a year and fortnighlty sessions, under the guidance of former Scunthorpe Scorpions Captain and Elite League rider Wayne Carter, run on Saturday afternoons from 12pm to 4pm. The sessions attract people of all ages, some who want to learn how to slide a speedway bike and progress in the sport, whilst many others are fans wanting to try their hand at the sport. The sessions include the use of the club's bikes and all the protective equipment and cost Scunthorpe Motorcycle Club holds 12 competitive trials a year at a number of places in and around North Lincolnshire. These include Ashby Ville, Walcott Hillside, Whitton Cliff, Manton Quarry and Leggot's Quarry at South Ferriby. The events are open to all ages and abilities from children as young a six and youth classes (up to 17yrs) to adults and veterans still riding in their seventies. Humberside Hawks Sporting Motorcycle Club have six trials events a year at Wilson's Quarry at South Ferriby. There are classes for all ages including children, youths and adults. If you don't want to take part in an organised event you can pay an annual fee at Wilson's Quarry, South Ferriby and ride your own trials bike on the tracks at this site. There is also an off-road motorcycling project at Blyton Airfield. For a small fee you can take your own bike or hire one of the project owned machines. This scheme is available at the weekends. Youth organisations can arrange for the Project Instructor to take groups of up to 12 young people for a comprehensive motorcycling riding and training day - you will need to book in advance. North Lincolnshire council will again be running the popular Summer Motorcycle Scheme during theschool summer holidays. Further details will ba avaialble here when we have them.
