North Lincolnshire has many excellent motorcycling roads that you can enjoy on large or small motorcycles. The traffic levels in the area are generally low outside the urban areas so you can concentrate on your ride and enjoy enhanced safety. Be aware that the rural roads particularly are used by very large agricultural machinery, especially during the pea and wheat harvest. You can expect to come across horses, riders and cyclists at any time of the year, especially on the minor roads. A161The A161 from Crowle through Eastoft towards Swinefleet and Goole provides superb riding on a mostly good road surface. There is a series of sweeping bends with some tight corners to keep you on your metal. Most have good visibility to allow you to plan your ride through a series of bends with maximum safety. In the other direction, travelling South from junction 3 of the M 180 through Epworth towards Gainsborough, the A161 provides the same mixture of execellent motorcycling roads with several series of bends and an excellent road surface. Epworth is famous for its connection with the renowned preacher John Wesley. B1205The B1205 skirts the North Lincolnshire boundary south of Kirton Lindsey. Starting from Blyton you travel East past Kirton Lindsey and on to the Brandy Wharf, South Kelsey, Moortown and eventually to Nettleton on the A46 near Caistor. A1077The A1077 runs from the end of the M181 at Scunthorpe past Winterton to the Humber Bridge and from there to Barton, Barrow and South Killingholme. For these communities it provides the main route to the Humber Bridge and Hull. As a result it is often busy, particularly during peak periods. Whilst busy in North Lincolnshire terms it would be considered quiet in many other parts of the country. Barton to Kirmington (Minor Roads)There are a variety of different ways to make this journey. The area is a maze of minor unclassified roads some single track without passing places some wide and with long straights. B1204The B1204 runs South from South Ferriby village to Elsham. On the way it passes through the villages of of Horkstow, Saxby All Saints, Bonby and Worlaby. As an alternative you can ride this on the single track road at the top of the wold rather than along the bottom. Or you can mix them by some of the connecting roads to ride partly on the top and partly on the bottom. A1084 Brigg to CaistorThis is a favourite road for bikers and is on many people’s route to Cadwell Park. Only the first part is in the North Lincolnshire area. B1434TO BE DONE A18The A18 from Thorne to Grimsby is mostly a very well surfaced and fast A road. The road goes through Scunthorpe on a 40mph urban dual carriageway that can get very congested at some of the roundabouts so you might want to plan an alternative route around Scunthorpe, possibly using the M180.
